The New York Alley Cats Robot Missions

or

How We Did It

The New York Alley Cats divided the 2002 FLL Challenge into three sets of missions. Our robot was fitted with a small arm mounted on the robot's left side to harvest four food loops from the plants. Here is a segment of that mission showing the food loop harvest and the robot returning the loops to base (32 points). (Double-click on the photo to play the video)

On returning to base, Alley Cat Mission Control personnel removed the food loops and harvest arm, loaded all eight food loops onto a dumper arm on the robot's backside, loaded the building materials onto another dumper arm high on the robot's tower and started the robot on it's second set of missions. The video shows the robot delivering building materials to the top platform of the building site (40 points) and delivering eight food loops to the opposite team's market (96 points). The robot continues on to retrieve four toxic waste barrels and returns them to base (40 points).
After adding an attachment and two stacked modular housing units, the robot places the units in the housing area (28 points), sweeps the soccer field of rocks (32 points), and lowers the deck of the bridge (32 points.)
